When I Learned the Cost of Unmanaged Energy

Years ago, when I was still in the corporate world, I experienced firsthand what happens when you don’t manage your energy.

A coworker came to me after a difficult meeting, clearly upset. I wanted to be a source of support, but within minutes I felt my heart racing and my hands shaking. I had unconsciously absorbed her stress.

That moment was a turning point. I realized I was mirroring other people’s emotions instead of managing my own. I was reacting, not responding. And my energy — instead of being something that nourished me — was being drained by everything around me.

That’s when I decided to learn how to protect, direct, and elevate my energy. It changed everything — my mood, my focus, my relationships, and ultimately, the way I move through life.


The Power of Choice

Here’s what I’ve learned since then:
You always have a choice about the energy you carry.

Even in the most stressful situations, you can pause, take a breath, and decide:

“What frequency do I want to live on right now?”

You can choose to absorb fear and frustration, or you can choose to radiate peace, compassion, and clarity.

That one simple awareness changes the atmosphere around you.

You become the tuning fork that helps others align to calm instead of chaos.

Energy is contagious — so why not be the one who spreads light?


🌬️ Taking Responsibility for Your Energy

Once you realize how powerful your energy is, you start to see the importance of taking responsibility for it.

Ask yourself:

  • What energy do I bring into a room?

  • Do my thoughts, words, and actions uplift others — or add to the noise?

This isn’t about perfection; it’s about awareness.
When you take ownership of your energy, you move from reacting out of emotion to responding from consciousness. You stop feeding the problem and start becoming part of the healing.


💛 How to Harness Your Energy for Good

Here are a few simple practices to help you shift from reactive to radiant:

1️⃣ Ground Yourself Daily

Before the day pulls you in a dozen directions, take a few moments to ground.
Feel your feet on the floor, breathe deeply, and center yourself.
A grounded body creates a calm mind — no matter what’s happening around you.


2️⃣ Cleanse Your Energy

Just as you shower your body, cleanse your energetic field.
You can do this through breathwork, yoga, meditation, or spending time in nature.
My favorite way is placing one hand on my heart, one on my belly, and taking three slow breaths until I feel myself anchored again.

Each exhale releases what’s not yours to carry.


3️⃣ Set Intentions Before You Engage

Before entering a meeting, conversation, or social setting, take a moment to ask:

“What energy do I want to bring into this space?”

Is it peace? Clarity? Patience? Joy?
When you lead with intention, you naturally elevate the energy of your environment.


4️⃣ Release Negativity Without Judgment

You don’t have to hold what’s heavy.
When you notice you’ve taken on negative energy, simply breathe it out.
Visualize yourself exhaling gray smoke and inhaling golden light.
This simple shift allows your energy to stay clear, balanced, and strong.


🌿 The Ripple Effect of Conscious Energy

Here’s the truth:
You are not just a receiver of energy — you are a generator of it.

Every thought, every emotion, every interaction sends ripples into the collective energy field.
When you intentionally radiate calm and kindness, you create tiny waves of healing that extend far beyond what you can see.

So the next time you walk into a room, remember:
Your presence can shift the entire tone.
Your calm becomes someone else’s comfort.
Your awareness becomes someone else’s permission to breathe.
